The Determinator®
Safe, Flexible, Easy to use, Great Service!
Our Alcohol Detection System (ADS), The Determinator®, is a state-of-the-art Ignition
Interlock device, an automotive
safety device. The system analyzes blood alcohol content and determines
if a driver is within a legal limit to get behind the wheel. In order to start a
vehicle with an installed ADS, a breath sample must be given. If a certain level
of alcohol is read, the vehicle will not start. The setting can be adjusted as
necessary from a zero to a required level.
The durable ignition interlock device hardware consists of a
user-friendly and discreet mouthpiece, and a control module, which is wired to
the vehicle.
Your Determinator® ignition interlock
device will come with complete installation instructions for any car electronics
company to follow along with an ADS Technical Support Hotline for troubleshooting assistance.

How The Determinator® Works
The device controls the operation of a vehicle as follows:
- When the key is turned a voice prompts the driver to prepare to give a
breath test.
- The driver has over 60 seconds to provide a deep lung breath sample.
- The breath sample is analyzed in 8 - 10 seconds.
- Allows 6-8 second resamples as needed.
- After test completion, a voice either prompts the driver to start the car
or lets him/her know it will not start (a lockout condition).
- To discourage someone else from providing the original breath sample,
"random rolling retests" are given at intervals after starting.
- If a retest is failed, a voice instructs the driver to pull over and shut
off the car. If this instruction is ignored, the horn sounds and the lights
blink until the car is shut off.
- The system's computer records all test and pertinent driving data. This is
downloadable and printable. Any attempt at tampering with the unit registers
in this data log as well.

Important DO's and DONT's
- DO take a DEEP lung breath before you blow
into the mouthpiece.
- DO be sure to form a good seal with your
lips around the mouthpiece as you exhale.
- DO blow with a firm even pressure until the
tone stops.
- DO make sure you always respond to the
rolling retest.
- DO focus. Do remember you will be asked to
do a rolling retest. Don't be distracted by the request for a breath sample
while driving … you have up to 30 seconds.
- DO practice the rolling retest in a safe
area, i.e., a parking lot, to get used to focusing on driving while providing
a breath sample.
- DO think ahead. Don't use mouthwash or
cough medicine immediately before using the device.
- DO think ahead. Don't smoke tobacco
products immediately before using the device or blow smoke directly into the
sensor head.
And, very importantly
- DON'T attempt to circumvent or tamper with
unit or lockout will occur.
- DON'T try having someone else provide the
breath sample or drive someone else's car. You will be subject to strict
penalties.
